south bristol, Maine
This iconic saltwater farmhouse and barn was tired and in need of restoration, but we were fortunate that its integrity remained intact. Our clients recognized how special this property was, and we were given a directive that we loved: "Make it it’s best self. No interpretation. No desire to put a modern spin on it. Give us a simple backdrop for a new life that’s to include gardening, bee-keeping, and raising oysters.” The challenges of bringing it up to 21st century technical standards without altering its character were significant. The clients were active collaborators, from sourcing vintage fixtures to locating a British artisan who reproduced the original hand-stamped wallpaper patterns.
