Australian Beach House
Re-used shipping containers define spaces on a house that opens to the ocean. See our design proposal that celebrates outdoor space and views.
An international competition, “Architectural Competition | Concours d’ Architecture” challenged participants to design a ‘container vacation house’ on a dramatic site overlooking Bondi Beach in Sydney Australia. The views are abundant and the climate is curiously similar to what we’re accustomed to here in LA.
Our proposal responded to the sloping terrain, using stepped plinths that connect experience to the water and provide a juxtaposed relationship to the natural and built environment. The containers sit on these concrete plinths and become a backdrop for indoor and outdoor space.
