peninsula house

An abandoned gravel pit with a saltwater aquifer were influential factors in the design of this year-round coastal house. It was positioned in the bowl to maximize solar gain and views; the curved barrel shed roofs collect rainwater and store it in underground cisterns to supply all the water needs of the occupants. The volume of the house is broken into separate pavilions and rendered dark to lessen the visual impact of the house from the water. Yacht-like detailing on the fa├žade system makes references to boatbuilding traditions prevalent in the local area.
