little deer isle, Maine

A programmatically complex house for clients who desired a diverse collection of spaces in which to live: Rooms respond to specific requirements for living, entertaining, art display, and visual and physical connections to the outdoors at different times of day and year. The design concept developed as a series of planes of varying translucency that loosely define spaces in the house, and blur a distinction between in and out in a climate where this boundary is typically rigidly defined.
